Laundry room storageEasy Ideas You Can Implement

Laundry rooms may be one of the most neglected rooms in the house when it comes to organizing and making use of available space. Let’s take a look at some laundry room tips and see how just a few changes can make this room more useful and functional.

So, you’re sorting through pants pockets and you find coins and other items. Without this organizational tip, you might just pile the pocket contents on top of the washer and take care of it ‘later’. Why not put a piggy bank, jar, or other container on the shelf nearby that will hold the coins? Another container could hold the ‘miscellaneous’ pocket items.  When the piggy bank is full, it’s time to go out for ice cream!

Instead of throwing all of your dirty clothes into one basket, how about sorting them as you’re undressing? This will save time later on in the laundry room when sorting.

Designate a mesh bag for each family member. As they take off their socks and undergarments, they can place them into the bag. When full, the entire bag goes into the washer and dryer and then gets returned to the family member.

Fold clothes as they come out of the dryer. Even just folding them and stacking them will prevent wrinkles and will make you feel more like putting them away if they are in a neat pile.

Place a small trash can or hang a plastic grocery store bag on a hook to use for collecting lint and other small trash items to save you from having to go to another room just to throw away the lint/trash.

I implemented a ‘lost sock box’ (a shoebox) when the kids were young. Any socks that didn’t pair up after the dryer was emptied went into the ‘lost sock box’. Periodically I would then go through the box and pair up any matches. After a while, the ones that were never matched with its mate were used for sock puppets!

If there is space in your laundry room, add a rod with some small hangers that can be used to hang delicates as they come out of the washer and dryer.

Some people like to pin socks together so they never lose them.

Make your own small ironing board – just a small rectangle of wood covered with a towel or thick fabric with some padding underneath. When not in use it can slide between the wall and the washer. When you need a quick touch-up, get it out and place it on top of the dryer.

We hope you’ve enjoyed these tips for keeping your laundry room neat and organized.
