Aspects of Closet Design

Builder-installed Closet vs Custom Closet

The standard closets built by builders are usually very basic and consist of several shelves and possibly a pole or two. They are not built to suit your needs, rather, you must make your clothes fit into the space provided. It is important to start thinking about the various aspects of closet design. Custom closet systems are carefully designed to make the best use of the space and fit your individual needs. They suit you, the clothes you own, and any additional accessories you have. Custom closets create order and make it easy for you to find what you’re looking for. No more cramming all of your shirts on one small rod and no more wrinkled clothes because there is not enough hanging space.

Choices

There is a choice of materials for the closet system. You may choose from  light, medium, or dark-toned wood, or white. At the design phase, we’ll go over the choices you’ll have and help you find something that will create the look you like. You’ll also have choices of the number and height of shelves, number of cabinets, rods, tilt-out drawers, etc. We’ll guide you on how to make these choices. Other than the closet systems, you may want to choose a paint color for the walls, and think about the type of flooring you would like for the closet. Lighting is another option to consider. If you have only one light fixture, you may want to add more lighting, change the type of lighting, and style of the light fixture. Good lighting will help you be able to determine colors, such as distinguishing between very dark blues vs black.

Extras

If your budget allows, this is where closet design gets fun! Add crown molding for an elegant look. If your walk-in closet has enough space, add an island. Instead of walking from the closet to the hall mirror, have a mirror installed in the closet! Add chrome belt racks, padded jewelry drawers, and a tilt-out and removable laundry hamper. Just ask us, and we will provide details about all of the ‘extras’ that can be done.
